Cover Images

I know that for the main image on the cover, I want a image that will take up the full page; most likely a destination image, however, I am not sure what image will work best. When I have done work like this in Media I would typically use a photo from the main aspect; which is common in magazine covers. In this case I would use a photo of Stephanie from the cover, as her interview is the main feature of the magazine cover. However, I can't take photos of Stephanie for my cover so I will have to substitute it for something else.

Since the magazine is a travel magazine I do think a destination photo will work best but I am not sure which one to use. Here are some of the photos that I have been trying out to use:

Magazine Cover Part 1

This is some of the ideas I have had for my cover so far.

 

• The title will be the largest text; stretching across the top of the magazine.
• The main article; the interview, will feature in the middle of the magazine.
• The blue box at the bottom of the page will feature the magazine's slogan, or will act as another place to add a storyline (and then maybe page number.)
• The other storylines are justified to the side; some in boxes, some just text on their own and some featuring images. This will keep a variation between them all.
• The circle, will stand out from the other shapes, and feature a competition.
• As well as this I will need to add the magazines website, issue date/number etc. which will most likely be placed under the masthead.
• I am not sure what image I will use for a background image at the minute and will make a separate blog post about that.

Masthead Fonts Part 2

Today I asked my peers to 'vote' for what font they liked the best out of the ones I chose. Due to their choices I have now narrowed it down to two choices. I will be switching between these two fonts when I start to make my magazine until I decide which one I like best, or which one suits the magazine best. The two fonts are shown below:

Captivating Cuba

For my AS English Coursework I wrote a travel article on Cuba that is posted below:

 

For my magazine, I have decided to use some of the ideas from this article; talking about the same places. However I am going to set it out in the style of a travel guide where I will have a section of my magazine about Cuba and then a different section or page on each place I have visited here. 

 

Software I Will Be Using

There will be two main types of software I will be using to make my magazine. These are Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign.

 

 

Photoshop

 

I will be using Photoshop to:

• edit any photos for the magazine.
• create my magazine cover.
• create my contents page.

InDesign

I will be using InDesign to:

• create any of my articles

I am using InDesign for my articles as through using both programmes in my Media Studies lessons, I have found that InDesign is much better and much easier to use to create articles. You can do some things that are useful for articles that you can't do in Photoshop. For example one of these things is making the text fit around an image or a quote. This is a typical convention of an article and looks good, but it is very tricky to do in Photoshop as there is not a feature to make this happen like there is in InDesign. I will be using Photoshop for my cover and contents pages as it is better than InDesign for these. There is many more features in Photoshop than InDesign to help create a good layout, and overall contents and cover pages. I will also be using Photoshop to edit all photos, even photos that I will be using in my articles as there is many more features to make the photos perfect; whether that is through using a lighting effect or a blemish tool.
