Meeting - Update

Today we had a meeting with our teacher where we discussed where we were up to in our research and planned what we were going to do next. Since most of my research is finished, and I've started writing some articles I've decided this is what I'm going to do now: make sure my blog is fully updated; create flat plans of magazine cover, contents page and articles page; finish 1st draft of articles and start to gather photos. I will set aside some days in the Christmas holidays to fit this in so when I come back in January I am ready to start creating the magazine on Photoshop.

Interview Questions Part 2

Here are the questions for my interview:

Since the email is going to be through email I have tried to make the questions as easy as I can to understand as I won't be able to explain them if they aren't. Hopefully, everything will be fine and I'll get my answers as soon as I can and start working on the interview.

Interview Questions Part 1

Now that I have someone who to interview for my magazine I need to make my list of questions I want to know. To get some ideas of some questions I could ask I have been reading interviews from travel magazines such as Wanderlust. For example, this interview they done with Simon Pegg.

Some of the questions from this interview that I am thinking about using and adapting are:

  • Do you have any pet peeves when flying? (or travelling in general)
  • What is your most serious travel gear?
  • Do you have any travel fears?
  • Talking about the "travel bug"

Redrafting My Questionnaire

PODCAST:

To redraft my questionnaire I used the results from my first lot of questionnaires. In my first questionnaire I had questions at that end asking the audience how easy they found to understand the questions and if they had any improvements for me. Some of the improvements mentioned were: make sure to leave space for people to write answers on questions where you asked them to please specify and to make sure to start a question with 'If Yes' or 'If you answered yes' when a question followed on from a previous question. As well as this I decided to make some colour schemes instead of just listing some colours as people were either choosing too many colours or not enough and I also narrowed the 'what would you like to see' down so they could only pick 3 choices as many people were picking most of them and it wasn't telling me what they'd like to see most. As well as this I decided to add some general magazine questions in. They aren't specific to travel magazines but will ask the audience what price they believe the magazine should be, how often it should be published and what attracts them to buy a magazine.

My Interviewee

I am going to be interviewing Steph from the travel blog Twenty-Something Travel.

This is a screenshot from her blog.
The interview will take place through email as this is what Steph said would be easiest for her. I am busy creating the questions that I want to find out about her and her life. As well this, I may create a questionnaire asking my audience what type of questions they would like answered.

Interview + Email Response

As you saw in an earlier post I emailed various travel bloggers and vloggers asking if anyone would be interesting in letting me do an interview with them. Thankfully, one has replied yes!

Questionnaire

I have created a questionnaire to hand out to people in my year group asking them what they think of travel magazines and travelling in general. However, before I hand out the questionnaire to a large quantity, I have decided to hand it out to only 5 people first. I will give these people a questionnaire that also includes questions at the end asking how easily they understood the questions and if they had any improvements for me. I have done this because, sometimes in questionnaires, it is easy to misinterpret questions and then I will not get the most reliable results. I will post the results to this questionnaire soon.

Here is a copy of the questionnaire:

Emails

As I have already mentioned I would like to have an interview in my magazine as this is a very popular feature in most magazines, including travel magazines. I read and watch various travel blogs/vlogs so I have been emailing some of my favourites to see if anyone would be interested in doing an interview with me. Here are some examples of the emails:

What Will Be Included

At the minute these are the types of ideas I have to include in my magazine.
  • Travel articles about different places and countries I have visited.
  • Top 10 articles (e.g. cities, travel essentials etc.)
  • Interviews - Currently I am trying to get an interview with a travel vlogger/blogger; someone who decades their life to travelling.
  • Language tips/skills pages.

What I'm Doing

For my extended project I have decided to create a travel magazine. For my English Language coursework in Year 12 I created a travel article; I loved writing it and knew I wanted to continue on with the writing so creating a travel magazine was the perfect project for my extended project.

This blog will allow me to document my research as well as development of my project as I begin to create it.
